Career path

Thinking About a Career in Financial Services?

If you're weighing a career change, here's an honest look at what this actually is, including the parts that make people walk away.

Commission-based business path. Not an offer of employment. No income claims.

A laptop and a coffee on a sunlit cafe counter, the kind of place independent work actually happens.

This is an independent, commission-based business. You build your own book, on your own schedule, with training and mentorship from day one.

It's not a salaried job, and it's not for everyone. It rewards people who are willing to do the work of building relationships and learning the business.

Who this is for

People ready to run their own business, not punch a clock.

People who want to work with the flexibility to build around their life, not the other way around.

People who take coaching well and will put in the work early.

Already licensed?

Weighing a move? Read the straight facts for licensed producers before you decide.

Who this is not for

  • Anyone who needs a guaranteed paycheck or benefits starting on day one.
  • Anyone unwilling to complete state licensing before doing any business.
  • Anyone looking for passive income or a shortcut through recruitment alone.
  • Anyone who can't protect consistent weekly hours for this work.
  • Anyone who came here expecting income claims, because we do not make any.

How the structure works

You get licensed in your own name. Oihana is the brand, the training, and the person who picks up the phone when you have a question. We would rather you understand that structure now than be surprised by it later.

Before you go further, three facts

  • This is commission-based. There is no salary, no base pay, and no guaranteed income. Compensation depends entirely on your own licensing, activity, results, and persistency.
  • A state license is required. You must complete pre-licensing coursework, pass your state exam, and be appointed before you can transact any business. That happens before anything is earned.
  • This is not employment. Nothing on this site is an offer of employment, and no income, results, or outcomes are promised or implied.

What the business includes

The business includes helping clients with insurance. For those who choose it, it can also include building and training a team of agents. Team-building is optional.

What it costs to start

Expect roughly $400 to $650 total to get started, covering registration, pre-licensing study, and your state exam and license fees. The exact amount depends on your state. Ask about all current costs before committing.

What support looks like

Training, licensing guidance, and mentorship from an active operator, not a hands-off recruiter.

That means regular training sessions, support through the licensing process, and one-on-one coaching as you build your first block of business.

What it's not

This isn't a guaranteed paycheck, and it isn't overnight.

Building a client base takes consistent activity, especially in the first year. This rewards people who show up and do the work, not people looking for a shortcut.
